Performing Arts Program Overview

Berkshire Pulse Performing Arts Program uses a creative youth development model, teaching young people an artistic discipline centered on creative inquiry and self-expression and using it as a vehicle to develop the personal, social & intellectual skills and capacities that are important for growth and success.

Young people have the opportunity to explore their own creative language while challenging their intellectual, technical, and artistic abilities. Traditional values are met using current techniques, an approach that reflects our interdisciplinary philosophy.

Weekly classes, special workshops, and summer intensives are offered for all students and include beginner through advanced level programming in Ballet, Modern, Creative dance, Choreography, Musical Theater dance, Tap, African dance, Flamenco, Latin Dance, Hip Hop, and World Music Percussion. Classes are open for observation at the culmination of each session. Performance opportunities begin with the all-student annual weekend Performance Celebration held at the Simon’s Rock Daniel Arts Center. More performance opportunities arise throughout the year for upper level students for events and venues throughout the Berkshires.

Primary discipline class levels are progressive and fulfilling the goals of each level is a requirement for advancement. Our holistic, child-friendly approach and professional standards facilitate the experience of enjoyment and success in the beauty of these performing arts.

Class and Level Placement

Placing students correctly is a core aspect to the Berkshire Pulse Performing Arts Program curriculum. For placement, we carefully consider a wide variety of factors ~ physical skill, peer group, emotional maturity, years of previous study, and age. Consequently each student is placed where we believe he or she will have the greatest potential for fulfillment and growth.

New dance students age 10+ who would like to participate in the Ballet and Modern classes are required to attend one class for placement prior to enrollment. Placement classes are held during our registration period at the onset of each new session. Students under 10 are placed according to age and interest. Adjustments in class placement occasionally may be necessary after initial attendance.

Private classes

Private lessons are offered for students who would benefit from one on one instruction. These private classes are offered as a supplement  to weekly group classes  to support accelerated progress, to facilitate safe transition back into class work from injury, or to help prepare students for auditions.
