This week-long mini-intensive program is designed to support dancers in reestablishing and enhancing their in-studio ballet practice. Daily classes will begin with pre-barre and barre technique and continue with center and traveling phrase work and variations. Each class will finish with conditioning and stretch technique. Students will be required to wear masks. Mask breaks will be taken outdoors. All other social distancing and safe indoor studio practice recommendations will be followed.

BALLET, for adults and youth ages 11+

The ballet classes are open to dancers ages 11+ with varying experience levels. Modifications and progressions are given to accommodate and challenge dancers appropriately. The beginning ballet dancer will learn the core foundations of ballet technique while learning the ballet vocabulary, musicality, and freedom of expression through movement. The intermediate/advanced ballet dancer will maintain stamina, develop speed in learning combinations, and further explore artistry in ballet. All dancers will be challenged to enhance balance, coordination, and flexibility. Small jumps, pirouettes and turns, and traveling movements are adjusted to fit small dancing spaces.

JAZZ 2, for ages 11+
With Tom Masters

This class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Matt Mattox, and Contemporary to help develop a well-rounded dancer. We’ll be dancing in the grass, so dancers will need jazz shoes or socks for this class.

The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun, as we go deeper into the details of foot work and rhythm combinations.

DANCE EXPRESSIONS 1, for ages 7-9

A playful approach to traditional technique, improvisation, shape and rhythm, music and story, and balance and flow, this class is an ideal introduction to dance. Dancing outdoors will be our inspiration allowing the natural beauty of our environment to inspire dance making as we explore a new way of being together and connecting.

DANCE EXPRESSIONS 2, for ages 11+

The primary goal of this class is to get students excited, motivated, and moving in new ways that empower, challenge and inspire them to reach their fullest potential. Incorporating a variety of genres, each class will involve general technique, alignment, and core strength training. Equal emphasis will be placed on students developing their individual talents while advancing skills associated with creating and working as a community. Through improvisation and dance making exercises students will work together to create original movement and choreography that fully expresses each dancer’s inner voice and identity.

Students build a basic understanding of traditional modern and ballet dance technique while learning to loosen, strengthen and explore their body’s movement vocabulary. With joyful and dynamic exercises and improvisational techniques, basic principles of rhythm, movement quality, musicality, and healthy alignment are acquired laying a clear foundation for further interdisciplinary dance studies.

This class is an introduction to the basic tap fundamentals, terminology and practice. We will focus on developing coordination, rhythmic skills and proper tap technique. Students will explore new ways to create rhythmic patterns and choreography as we embark on this new adventure — tapping outdoors!
