Joy Ruben is a lifelong dancer of ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, modern, and lyrical. Her love of dance eventually inspired her to study movement as healing for the psyche. She is a registered yoga teacher, Shake Your Soul teacher, Let Your Yoga Dance teacher, registered dance/movement psychotherapist, and is currently in a doctoral program studying the Discipline of Authentic Movement as well as the role of creative embodiment in mental health.
She began teaching movement in 2008 as a yoga teacher. From 2008 until 2012 she taught full time at Yoga For Life on Long Island, with a main focus on gentle yoga and Let Your Yoga Dance. She became a Dance/Movement Psychotherapist in 2014, and has worked in the field since. In 2021, Joy took her classes online to lead yoga, Shake Your Soul, and Burlesque Ballet. In the Berkshires, she has brought dance and dance/movement psychotherapy to local organizations including Hillcrest Educational Centers, the Brien Center, and the Beacon Recovery Community Center.
