CONTEMPORARY 4 for ages 14-adult
With Madison Palffy
This class invites experienced Contemporary dancers to expand their skills, deepen their artistry, and explore weight and momentum as the impetus to move boldly through space. Classes will begin with warm ups that focus on alignment, generate heat, and build group ensemble awareness. Classes will continue to build energy through fluid movements in and out of the floor, exercises to challenge rhythm and musicality, partnering, solo and group improvisation, and phrases that move dynamically through space riding momentum. As a teacher, I emphasize the use of weight, momentum, and breath in support of full bodied physicality. I offer explorations of form and function that help expand the students’ capacity for creative articulation as movers. Through tuning in to sensation, gravity, and instinct, students attune themselves to the inherent musicality inside the body. My classes aim to empower individuals by deepening anatomical knowledge and proprioceptive activation through somatic inquiry and exploration. Dance kneepads are required for this class and can be purchased at the Front Desk for $20.
