MODERN 3 for ages 13-adult

This class is centered on the principles and techniques of Modern Dance, with a primary focus on the influential and foundational work of Martha Graham. Dancers will explore core concepts such as contraction and release, spirals, fall and recovery, and breath-driven phrasing. Through a combination of structured exercises and creative exploration, students will develop strength, coordination, flexibility, discipline and greater physical and emotional expression. We will work to build a solid technical foundation while discovering the ongoing relevance of Graham technique in contemporary dance, alongside our own personal voice. Each class will begin with floorwork, progress to standing center work and then on to dynamic traveling sequences, culminating in expressive movement phrases. Students invited to participate in Level 3 Modern should have an understanding of studio etiquette, the ability to accept and apply corrections, and a working knowledge of modern dance floorwork and center principles.

January 27 – June 2
(No class February 17 and April 21)
$350 for the full session ($10 performance fee included)
If taking Ballet 3-4, Modern 3, or Jazz 3-4, participation in three or more classes per week is required at this level. Enrollment in Level 3 Ballet, Modern, and Jazz requires placement from Pulse teaching artists and staff.
