Zadie Belfer-Shevett is a musician, visual artist, and spreadsheet enthusiast from the Connecticut River Valley. They studied ethnomusicology at Hampshire College, then spent their next 6 years as a worker-owner and administrator of a bicycle-powered hauling cooperative before moving onto Northampton Community Music Center and finally Pulse. Zadie is a lover of all performance art and is excited to learn more about the world of dance through their time in the Berkshires.
Zadie is a co-founder of Free Pile Productions, a DIY theater company devoted to creating joyful and accessible performances for everyone through live music and puppetry. They provide technical/logistical direction and musical accompaniment for the company. In April 2026, Free Pile is debuting their most ambitious project yet by orders of magnitude, The Living Room. Zadie also performs solo electronic sets as zbs.fm,where they blendelectronic drums, bass guitar and synthesizers into pensive downtempo grooves. Their album Tell Me Who You Think I Am was released in September 2025.
